FROM FIRST BOOT TO CASINO HANDOVER

Install LGD, step by step.

A practical guide for technicians. Prepare the server, connect stations and verify each workspace before handing it over to staff.

How it fits together

CASINO LOCAL NETWORK

Casino serverApplications and player data
Reception
Cashier
Admin

Keep the server running. Stations need a connection to its fixed address on the casino network. The administrator manages accounts and permissions in LGD Admin.

Understand the installation

Installation order: network and Ubuntu, server and licence, stations, peripherals and acceptance tests.

#

This guide covers installation of the casino server and its workstations. Run server commands on the server and station commands on the relevant workstation. Complete operational settings with the authorised casino administrator.

ComponentPurposeWho configures it
Casino serverStores player records, documents, cashier data and staff accounts. Serves Reception, Cashier and LGD Admin.Technician with sudo access
LGD Kiosk stationComputer with a monitor at reception or the cash desk. Connects to the local server.Technician, then an authorised manager
LGD AdminStaff, roles, readers and settings for one casino. Runs on its server.Casino administrator
  1. Prepare hardware, network and an installation USB drive. Request the server installation code for your casino from LGD.
  2. Install Ubuntu Server on the casino server.
  3. Install LGD on the server, store the backup recovery code and verify an active licence.
  4. Install Ubuntu on each station using the same USB drive. Generate a separate station code on the server and complete LGD Kiosk installation.
  5. Prepare staff accounts, RVO, documents and cashier settings. After stations are installed and restarted, connect, configure and test readers, cameras, signature devices and printers.
  6. Run acceptance tests, test backup restoration and hand over to staff.

Prepare before visiting the casino

Prepare computers, network, installation code and operational documents in advance.

#
ItemRequirement / recommendation
ServerClean Ubuntu Server 24.04 or 26.04, 64-bit amd64 or arm64. Recommended baseline: 2 cores, 4 GB RAM and at least 20 GB free space, plus capacity for photos, documents and backups. Use a reliable SSD and consider a UPS.
StationUbuntu Server 24.04 or 26.04, amd64 or arm64, monitor and Linux-supported graphics output (DRM/KMS), keyboard and mouse or touch. Test resolution and peripherals on the actual model before the visit.
NetworkWired Ethernet, access to the same or correctly routed operational network, fixed server IP or DHCP reservation, working DNS, time and internet.
Installation equipmentA second working computer, USB drive of at least 8 GB for Ubuntu, network cables, router/switch access and secure storage for recovery codes.
PeripheralsCompatible USB HID reader and test cards, camera, signature pen/touch hardware for the chosen setup, printer and optionally a ticket scanner.
Other systems or older computers

The server installer also supports Debian 12 and 13. This new-installation guide uses Ubuntu Server. Stations require Ubuntu 24.04/26.04; 32-bit systems, Windows, macOS and ordinary containers are not targets of this installation command. Virtual stations also need a virtual graphics adapter.

Resolve disk or hardware faults first. Successful installation does not test SSD health or guarantee reliability. OCR and remote-display performance depend on the actual computer; check them with the real camera and normal workload.

Install Ubuntu on an empty computer

Install Ubuntu Server on the server and stations first. You can reuse one installation USB drive for every computer with the same architecture.

#
  1. On a second computer, download Ubuntu Server from the official website. Choose 24.04 LTS or 26.04 LTS and the correct architecture; ordinary Intel/AMD PCs use amd64.
  2. Open Rufus on Windows or balenaEtcher on macOS. Select the downloaded ISO file and target USB drive, then start writing. The program creates a bootable installation drive from the image; wait for writing to finish.
  3. Connect Ethernet and the installation USB to the target computer. Open the manufacturer’s one-time boot menu and select the USB, usually in UEFI mode.
  4. Start Ubuntu Server installation. Select language and the correct keyboard layout. DHCP is suitable during installation; ensure the server subsequently has a stable address.
  5. Review storage. A dedicated empty computer can use the entire designated disk. Discuss disk encryption with IT: a boot passphrase requires someone present or an agreed unlocking process after outages.
  6. Create a normal technician account with a strong password. This account receives sudo access. Use a clear hostname such as lgd-server or reception-01. The Linux account and the first LGD administrator are separate accounts.
  7. Enable OpenSSH on the server if you will manage it through SSH. Restrict access to the service network and authorised keys. Stations do not need OpenSSH for LGD remote support. Do not select unrelated optional server applications for LGD.
  8. Finish installation, remove the USB drive, restart and sign in as the technician. A text console is expected; the LGD installer prepares the station’s graphical environment later. Keep the USB drive for installing all further computers with the same architecture.
Install curl and trusted certificates
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y curl ca-certificates

Run on both the new server and each station. Sudo may request the Linux account password; typed characters are not displayed.

Check operating system, architecture, network and time
cat /etc/os-release
dpkg --print-architecture
ip -br address
ip route
timedatectl status

Expect a supported Ubuntu release, amd64 or arm64, an operational-network address, a default gateway and synchronised time.

Network, addresses and server trust

Stations must reach the correct server and verify its certificate. Internet access does not replace casino-network access.

#
  1. Set a server DHCP reservation on the router, or agree a static IP with IT that avoids conflicts. Record IP, subnet mask, gateway, DNS and any internal hostname. Do not copy someone else’s sample address.
  2. Connect stations to a network with a route to the server. Guest Wi-Fi often isolates devices; do not use it for workstations.
  3. Allow required traffic through firewalls and VLANs. Casino web ports should be reachable by authorised local devices, not automatically from the public internet.
  4. Verify DNS and correct time. Incorrect clocks can break HTTPS, licensing and multifactor authentication.
ConnectionPurpose
Station → server: TCP 443Reception, Cashier, licence checks and kiosk packages.
Administrator → server: TCP 8443LGD Admin; its address includes :8443.
Local network → server: TCP 80Redirect to HTTPS and the local CA’s public certificate.
IT → server: SSH as configuredLinux server maintenance. Do not forward this port from the internet without an agreed IT access design.
Server → internetLGD licensing and update services over HTTPS, plus Ubuntu/Ruby/Python sources during installation. RVO and services used by the ordered modules must be reachable during operation. Ensure DNS and time synchronisation work.
Station → internetInstaller and system package downloads, and LGD services over HTTPS/WebSocket. LGD Kiosk application updates come from the local server.
Check LGD installer connectivity
curl -fsS -o /dev/null https://lgdefender.com/install

This command downloads and discards the installer; it does not execute it. No error output means the download succeeded. If it fails, check network, DNS and time settings.

Certificate for an administrator laptop or normal browser

Complete this section after installing the server and before opening LGD Admin in a normal browser. The server creates its own certificate authority. Kiosk receives its verified fingerprint from the installation code; a browser on another computer may not yet trust it.

Show the fingerprint on the server
sudo lgd certificate
  1. On the administrator’s computer, download the public certificate from http://SERVER_ADDRESS/lgd-ca.crt, replacing SERVER_ADDRESS with the casino server address.
  2. Before importing, compare the downloaded certificate’s entire SHA-256 fingerprint with the server console output or a value verified by the technician. Downloading over HTTP alone does not establish trust.
  3. Import only this public CA certificate into the trusted root store for the operating system/browser. Never download or share the server private key.
  4. Reopen https://SERVER_ADDRESS:8443 and confirm there is no certificate warning.
Compare the downloaded public certificate fingerprint
openssl x509 -in lgd-ca.crt -noout -fingerprint -sha256

On a computer with OpenSSL, in the folder containing the downloaded lgd-ca.crt. The complete SHA-256 fingerprint must match sudo lgd certificate on the verified server.

Import an already verified CA on an Ubuntu administrator computer
sudo cp lgd-ca.crt /usr/local/share/ca-certificates/lgd-casino.crt
sudo update-ca-certificates

Run on the Ubuntu client only after comparing the fingerprint. Some browsers use a separate certificate store; verify the result in the actual browser.

On Windows use certificate management and the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store according to IT policy. On macOS import the verified CA in Keychain and configure its trust. Verify the SHA-256 fingerprint before confirming; system trust may not automatically propagate to every browser.

Install the casino server

Run on the casino server. Have the single-use installation code supplied by LGD ready.

#
  1. Request a 16-character server installation code from the LGD team. Confirm the casino name and site it was created for. The code is valid for 24 hours and one server installation.
  2. On the Ubuntu server, run the command below. Enter the code when prompted; its characters are visible so you can check and correct it before pressing Enter. The sudo password is hidden while typing.
  3. Enter the first LGD administrator’s name, username and a password of at least 10 characters. The username starts with a letter or digit and uses 3–40 lowercase letters, digits, dots, underscores or hyphens. The password remains hidden while typing.
  4. Let installation complete. The first installation compiles Ruby, so duration depends on hardware and network; 10–15 minutes is an indicative estimate. Do not power off midway.
  5. Save the final application addresses, installation ID and certificate fingerprint in the service record. Store the backup recovery code separately in a password manager.
Start server installation
curl -fsSL https://lgdefender.com/install | sudo bash

The installer prepares the database, applications, HTTPS, services, firewall, OCR and the first backup. The final output lists application addresses and maintenance details.

Verify the completed installation
sudo lgd status
Preflight and service options
Check prerequisites before installing LGD
curl -fsSL https://lgdefender.com/install | sudo bash -s -- --check

A valid server code is still required. It prepares download tools and fetches a verified release, but does not install LGD services. It is not a completely read-only system check.

For an installed server use sudo lgd check, sudo lgd status and sudo lgd update. Installer options --host, --no-firewall and --no-ocr are for technicians with an agreed network design; normal installation does not need them. Plan firewall changes to retain maintenance access.

Verify the licence and available modules

A licence belongs to a specific server and site. An installation code does not replace it.

#
  1. Run the synchronisation and status commands below on the server.
  2. On a helper computer in the same network, open https://SERVER_ADDRESS:8443 in a normal browser. Replace SERVER_ADDRESS with the actual server address and sign in as the first administrator. In LGD Admin → Settings → LGD Licence verify the status, site, validity and ordered modules.
  3. If the licence is missing or its details are incorrect, contact LGD with the casino name and installation ID from the final output. After activation is confirmed, the server normally downloads the licence within 5 minutes; run synchronisation to fetch it immediately.
  4. After verifying an active licence, continue with station installation. There is no further short licence-activation code to enter in the installer.
Synchronise licence and status
sudo lgd sync
sudo lgd status
StatusMeaning
Valid licenceOnly included and actually deployed modules are available. Reception, Cashier and Bar are offered according to the server licence.
Approaching expiryAdministrators see a warning 30 days before expiry; arrange renewal in advance.
After expiryThe application has a 14-day grace period, then restricts new admissions and money-in operations. Departures, returning funds and record-keeping have specific continuity rules. Do not rely on grace as normal operation.
Missing or invalidLGD Admin remains available. Check installation ID, clock and connectivity, run sudo lgd sync and ask the LGD team to check the issued licence.
Manual installation and server replacement

If automatic connectivity is unavailable, the LGD team supplies the complete signed licence line. An authorised casino administrator enters it in the local LGD Admin → Settings → LGD Licence → New licence. Never edit its contents.

Coordinate server replacement with LGD. A clean installation creates a new ID, but restoring the database reinstates the ID stored in the backup. For licensing checks, use the actual ID shown by sudo lgd status after restoration. Then run sudo lgd sync; if it fails, send LGD the ID and exact error. The licence must be valid and synchronisation successful before operations resume.

Install individual stations

The server must be reachable and have an active licence. Repeat these steps on every workstation computer.

#
  1. Run sudo lgd station on the casino server. It creates a single-use code for one new station, valid for 24 hours. Run the command again for every additional computer.
  2. On the new Ubuntu station with monitor and network, run the command below. Enter its station code, not the server code or reader code. Its characters are visible so you can check the code before pressing Enter.
  3. The wizard loads the casino, server address and trusted fingerprint. Confirm the address; only replace it with an address of the same verified server. Licence verification must succeed.
  4. Select the required workspace from those available under the licence. A sole available workspace is selected automatically. The installer then downloads and verifies the LGD Kiosk package.
  5. Set a 6–12 digit station service PIN and store it for IT. It is optional, but without it service exit from Kiosk is unavailable when the server is unreachable. Typed PIN characters are hidden.
  6. Enter a name and location that identify the computer on site. Let setup finish and accept the offered restart. LGD Kiosk then opens automatically in the selected workspace.
  7. After restarting, verify the casino name, selected workspace and username/password sign-in. Then connect and pair the reader on this prepared station as described in Reader, documents, signatures and printing.
On the new station
curl -fsSL https://lgdefender.com/station | sudo bash
Create a code from the casino server
sudo lgd station

Run on the server, not the station. Create a new code for each additional station. It is valid for 24 hours and one computer.

If an older server does not offer station installation
Update the server in a maintenance window
sudo lgd backup
sudo lgd update
sudo lgd sync

Run on the server. An update can briefly interrupt operation; inform staff first. Then run sudo lgd station again.

Settings after first launch

Open Station settings or the setup wizard from the station menu. An authorised manager with kiosk-management permission verifies changes by card and PIN or username and password. Check language, keyboard, content scale, printer, server and reader.

Station settings persist across restarts. Staff login is not restored after restarting Kiosk; reader pairing remains. An on-screen keyboard can be enabled for touch stations. Test restart and sign-out when finished.

Prepare staff and operations

Configure accounts and permissions, production RVO, approved documents and cashier rules.

#
  1. On a helper computer, open LGD Admin in a normal browser at the server’s HTTPS address with port :8443 and sign in as the first administrator. Verify certificate trust as described in Network, addresses and server trust. Use this computer for account administration and reader pairing codes.
  2. Create named staff accounts. Define custom roles for reception, cashier, supervisor and administrator and assign only required workspaces and actions. A role name alone grants no permissions.
  3. Set passwords and personal staff PINs. Verify username/password sign-in. Assign and test staff cards after configuring the reader in the next chapter; a station service PIN is not a staff PIN.
  4. Verify that reception staff cannot open unauthorised settings and a cashier cannot approve their own operation. Manager actions require an account with the corresponding permission.
  5. Enter operator and site details, time zone and contacts. Hand over the staff-leaver procedure: deactivate the account and card and review permissions.
RVO before production admissions

The installer leaves RVO disabled until the technician configures the operator’s production credentials. A loaded application or valid licence does not mean RVO checks are working. The operator must confirm configuration and procedures before production use.

Configure production RVO on the server
sudo lgd rvo
  1. Choose production and enter the exact IDMisto and operator details. Prepare PEM certificate and private-key files on the server.
  2. Enter certificate and key paths and any passphrase. Do not email the key or put it in this guide or routine service logs.
  3. Sign in as an administrator and open Reception → Settings → RVO → Test connection. Then verify an authorised operational scenario with the operator; connectivity alone does not prove a correct response for a specific identity.
  4. Verify the place ID matches the licence and agree an outage procedure. Never work around an outage by disabling RVO or using a test certificate in production.

OCR only suggests field values and does not establish document authenticity. Staff check the document and person; admission requires the appropriate RVO result and the application’s other checks.

Documents and player registration

The technician deploys approved templates into the directory configured by RECEPTION_DOCUMENT_TEMPLATES. Configure RECEPTION_OPERATOR_NAME, RECEPTION_OPERATOR_ID, RECEPTION_OPERATOR_ADDRESS and RECEPTION_PRIVACY_CONTACT on the server. Previously signed documents retain their original wording. The casino supplies legal and operational approval; installation does not replace it.

Create stable folders for approved templates
sudo install -d -m 0750 -o root -g lgd /etc/lgd/documents /etc/lgd/notices
  1. Prepare approved YAML files following /opt/lgd/current/config/reception/documents and /opt/lgd/current/config/reception/notices. Preserve required keys and types, including key, kind and required for registration documents, and assign a new unique version.
  2. Place approved registration files in /etc/lgd/documents and notices in /etc/lgd/notices. The lgd group must be able to read them; recommended ownership is root:lgd with file mode 0640. Do not leave empty folders or an incomplete document set.
  3. Use sudoedit to edit /etc/lgd/lgd.env. Set RECEPTION_DOCUMENT_TEMPLATES=/etc/lgd/documents and RECEPTION_NOTICE_TEMPLATES=/etc/lgd/notices. Complete the operator details listed above in the same file and check RECEPTION_TIME_ZONE. Do not change existing secret keys.
  4. Restart LGD during a maintenance window and open registration and relevant notices. Check complete wording, populated operator details, required choices and the new version. Keep an independent backup of custom templates.
Open server configuration for editing
sudoedit /etc/lgd/lgd.env

The file also contains secrets. Edit only agreed entries and never publish the full contents. Write values containing spaces using systemd EnvironmentFile syntax.

Apply the new configuration
sudo lgd restart
sudo lgd status
Cashier before the first shift
  1. In Cashier settings create cash desks, currencies and chip sets/denominations. A new desk starts empty; initial cash and chips are recorded as transfers from the vault.
  2. For live games configure games and tables according to actual authorisation and operations. Verify exchange rates, operational-day start, approval thresholds and cashier rules.
  3. Complete reporting details, designate AML responsibilities and ensure required sanctions sources are reachable. The operator approves parameters; the installer must not guess them.
  4. Test shift opening, vault transfer, money-in and payout, second-person approval, reversal, reconciliation and printing. Do not use real financial transactions as uncontrolled tests.
  5. Test the payment terminal and gaming-machine provider separately. Recording a card payment does not mean it is charged automatically; a test ticket does not prove integration with real gaming machines.

Reader, documents, signatures and printing

Configure peripherals after completing installation and restarting the station. Test each device on the computer and at the location where it will be used.

#
USB staff and player card reader
  1. Verify LGD Kiosk starts after a restart and username/password sign-in works. Sign out to return to the sign-in screen, then connect the reader to this station’s USB port.
  2. Use a reader compatible with your cards in USB HID keyboard mode. It must send the UID quickly and finish with Enter or Tab. The same cards must produce the same UID format on every reader.
  3. On the helper computer, open LGD Admin → Readers and create a record for the station and a pairing code. This code has 8 characters, is valid for 15 minutes and can be used once.
  4. On the Kiosk sign-in screen choose Set up reader and enter the code. In a normal browser use the computer/reader pairing action.
  5. To assign a staff card, connect the USB reader to the helper computer running LGD Admin. In the employee’s details select Add card, scan an unassigned card and confirm Assign card. Set a personal PIN on the account.
  6. Reconnect the reader to the station’s USB port. Scan the assigned card on the station’s sign-in screen: the cardholder and a focused PIN field should appear. Enter the PIN and confirm with Enter. Then test a player card and an unassigned card.
  7. Restart Kiosk and repeat the test. Replacing the computer or clearing the browser profile may require pairing again; revoke unused old pairings in Admin.
Camera and local document OCR
  1. Connect the camera and capture the entire document sharply without glare or blur. Use a stable stand and even lighting. Identity/residence cards have two sides; a passport uses its identity page.
  2. Read the document in registration and review suggested fields and any conflicts. Fill missing values; never accept an incorrect value for speed.
  3. Take a separate player portrait. A document image is not the profile portrait. Check the portrait display when subsequently admitting by card.
  4. Test the complete registration flow with staff and verify the correct details, portrait and documents are saved.

OCR processes images locally on the casino server and removes temporary document images after processing. Approved fields, portraits and signed documents follow the normal storage and retention rules. Manual entry remains available if OCR cannot be used.

Install or repair OCR on the server
sudo lgd ocr

Afterwards check OCR status in Reception settings and read an appropriate test document.

Signature hardware

The signature field supports finger, pen or mouse input. Test the specific device with Linux and LGD before buying or handover. A dedicated signature pad needing a proprietary driver or SDK may not behave as ordinary input; automatic compatibility is not guaranteed.

Printer, ticket scanner and payment terminal
  1. Configure the printer in Linux with its driver and test system printing first. Kiosk does not install every possible printer driver automatically.
  2. Select the printer in Station settings and run a test print. Check paper size, margins, accented characters, signature lines and any silent-print configuration.
  3. Print the actual document types: registration document, cashier receipt and shift report. Narrow thermal paper may not replace A4 for all reports.
  4. Test the ticket scanner with the actual gaming provider’s input flow. For the payment terminal test success, decline and reconciliation between recorded amounts and terminal totals according to operating procedures.
Prepare printing on an Ubuntu station
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y cups
sudo systemctl enable --now cups
lpstat -p -d

This prepares printing; still add the actual printer with a supported driver. An empty list means none is configured yet.

A technician configures the printer before starting Kiosk or through maintenance access, following its model instructions. CUPS has local administration at localhost:631; Kiosk is restricted to LGD pages and does not open that administration. Port 631 need not be exposed to the whole casino or internet.

Remote help when needed

Report the specific error to support. An active screen connection is visible on the station and can be ended locally.

#
  1. Contact LGD support with the casino, affected workspace, time and exact error. Diagnostic commands are in When something goes wrong.
  2. When a technician connects to the screen, the station displays the LGD remote help is connected banner. Use End in that banner to end the current connection at any time.
  3. After support finishes, test the affected operation on the station and agree next steps if the problem persists.

Routine maintenance and updates

Check status, plan interruptions and inspect results. Automation needs connectivity and free disk space.

#
WhenServer activity
Approximately every 5 minutesSynchronises status and downloads the current licence from LGD services.
Daily at 05:45, Europe/PragueCreates an encrypted backup in /var/backups/lgd; normal local retention is 14 days.
Daily approximately 06:15–06:45, Europe/PragueChecks for releases, kiosk packages and certificates. Installing a release can briefly interrupt services; failed updates attempt rollback of the previous version and database.
Stations after startup and every 6 hoursChecks the local server for a newer signed Kiosk package. Installs only on an idle sign-in screen, outside remote sessions.
Basic server health check
sudo lgd status
df -h
systemctl list-timers lgd-backup.timer lgd-update.timer
Check for a new release
sudo lgd update --check
Update during a maintenance window
sudo lgd backup
sudo lgd update
sudo lgd status

Notify staff first. Afterwards verify login and workstation availability; command completion is not the entire operational check.

Station maintenance commands
Check Kiosk status and recent logs
systemctl status lgd-kiosk --no-pager
journalctl -u lgd-kiosk -b -n 100 --no-pager
journalctl -u lgd-kiosk-update -n 100 --no-pager
Restart the station application
sudo systemctl restart lgd-kiosk

Interrupts work on this station. Complete or safely leave any operation in progress first.

An authorised manager can exit Kiosk for maintenance in Station settings. Without server connectivity use Service exit and the service PIN. Restarting the station starts Kiosk again; uninstalling is not the normal fix for lost connectivity.

Backups and recovery after a failure

A backup on the same disk cannot survive that disk failing. Store the recovery code off the server.

#
Create a backup and display the recovery code
sudo lgd backup
sudo lgd backup-code

The code is displayed in the console. Store it in a password manager; do not share screenshots containing it in routine support conversations.

The archive in /var/backups/lgd contains the database, stored files and required encryption keys and is encrypted using the recovery code. Without the correct code, recovery may be impossible. Local backups are pruned by retention; arrange long-term and separate copies independently.

  1. Agree off-server storage, permissions, retention and an owner. Backups contain sensitive information even when encrypted.
  2. Regularly copy completed .tar.gpg files to a NAS or other separate storage. Files ending in .partial are unfinished backups. The installer does not automatically configure off-server copying.
  3. Verify decryption and restoration on a separate test server. Isolate it from production stations and ensure it cannot send unintended operational requests.
  4. Record the date, archive, restore duration and data-check results after each test. File existence alone does not prove recoverability.
Restore onto a replacement server
  1. Arrange server replacement with LGD and request a new server installation code. Install the replacement server; perform the final licence and synchronisation checks after restoring the backup.
  2. Securely transfer the chosen completed archive and have the recovery code for that specific backup.
  3. Run the restore below, replacing FILE with the actual backup path. Confirm overwriting only after checking the destination server.
  4. After restoration, run the status and synchronisation commands below. Send LGD the actual installation ID from this output and any synchronisation error. Restoration can reinstate the original backup ID instead of the new installation ID; connectivity may not recover automatically.
  5. Sign in using accounts from the backup. Verify players, documents, portraits, cashier records and audit. Check the RVO certificate and key, templates, DNS/IP, server certificate and station connectivity. Resume operations only with a valid licence, successful synchronisation and verified workstations.
Restore the selected archive
sudo lgd restore FILE

FILE is a placeholder. Replace it with the full path to a .tar.gpg file. The command restores the database, stored files and application encryption keys.

After restoration, check the actual ID, licence and synchronisation
sudo lgd status
sudo lgd sync
sudo lgd status

If synchronisation fails, contact LGD and resolve connectivity before resuming operations. A completed restore alone does not confirm a valid licence or successful synchronisation.

Separately retain the production RVO certificate and private key, custom templates outside normal storage and other external configuration. Do not assume an LGD backup contains every file on the computer. Restoring onto a new server may require re-verifying its CA trust on stations.

Final checks and workstation handover

A technician and responsible staff confirm acceptance on the actual hardware. Every unresolved item needs an owner.

#
Handover detailWhat to record securely
Site and contactCasino, operator, responsible person, service contact and acceptance date.
Hardware and networkStation inventory, names, locations, server IP, versions, peripheral models and agreed network rules.
Access and recoveryWho manages passwords, MFA, service PINs, recovery code and backup location; transfer secrets separately.
ResultAccepted / accepted with reservations / not accepted, deviations, responsible owner and resolution deadline.

When something goes wrong

First determine whether the problem is network, server, licence or one station. Do not blindly delete data or keys.

#
SymptomFirst action
curl: command not foundInstall curl from the Ubuntu chapter. Run commands in the Ubuntu terminal, not the browser address bar.
Could not resolve host / timeoutCheck cable, IP, gateway, DNS and internet access. Internet connectivity alone does not prove local-server reachability.
Installation code rejectedCheck the code type, typing errors and its 24-hour validity. Each code registers one device; the system rejects a used or expired code for a new computer. Request a new server code from LGD, or create a station code on the server with sudo lgd station.
Server offers no workspaceCheck the licence and deployed modules. Update and synchronise older servers. Use the main server address, not Admin port :8443.
Certificate mismatchCompare fingerprint with the server, address and time. Re-establish trust after server replacement only after verification. Do not disable TLS checks.
Kiosk shows server unavailableCheck server services and the local network. Kiosk retries; use Try again or the service PIN for local maintenance.
Black screen after restartCheck monitor, cable, Linux graphics and lgd-kiosk service. Enable the graphics adapter in a VM. Collect service logs before reinstalling.
Card does not scan or types charactersCheck USB HID output, Enter/Tab ending, UID format and separate reader pairing. Then verify card assignment and active state in Admin.
OCR reads nothing / camera unavailableCheck camera permission, HTTPS, image sharpness and OCR status. Use manual entry if needed; a person must always review OCR results.
Printing failsStart with Linux system printing, then printer selection and Station settings test. Check paper, queue, connection and driver.
RVO fails or cannot verify a playerCheck certificate and key, place ID, clock, connection and exact document fields. Share only necessary diagnostic data; do not bypass checks.
Low disk space / backup failedCheck df -h and backup status/logs. Do not delete the database, encryption keys or sole backup copy. Arrange capacity and another copy.
Server diagnostics
sudo lgd status
sudo lgd check
journalctl -u lgd-reception -u lgd-admin -u lgd-update -n 150 --no-pager
journalctl -u lgd-backup -n 80 --no-pager
Interrupted station installation

After an interruption, run the original installation command on the same computer with the same still-valid code. The installer can complete the pending registration using details stored on that station. This does not allow another computer to register with the same code.

Discard an unfinished attempt after code expiry
sudo lgd-kiosk-enroll --discard-pending

Only on a station without active remote access, after confirming the original attempt cannot complete. Then create a new code on the server with sudo lgd station and rerun installation. This command does not revoke completed enrollment.

Lost administrator login
Create an administrator or reset their password on the server
sudo lgd admin

Run on the server with Linux sudo access to restore access for your casino administrator.

What to provide to support
  • Casino, computer name and whether it is a server or station; LGD and Ubuntu versions.
  • Exact time, procedure step, expected result and complete error wording.
  • Status output and only the relevant log excerpt after removing personal data and secrets.
  • Changes before the error: network, device, update, certificate or server replacement.
  • Never send passwords, PINs, recovery codes, private keys or the complete /etc/lgd/lgd.env file.
